David grew up on a small diversified row crop and cow-calf operation in Gladbrook, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Studies. In 2013, he started managing the Iowa State University Beef Teaching Farm. In 2016, he got married to his wife Molly, and now, presently, owns and operates a small Angus cow herd in Kelley, Iowa, aside from their jobs.
