Bill McLean is a cow-calf operator from Coulee City, Wash. and was nominated by the Washington Cattlemen's Association to serve on the Beef Board, then appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to begin his first term in 2016. He earned his bachelor's degree in animal science, with emphasis in agricultural economics and business, in 1964 and has been engaged in farming and ranching ever since. His family's operation includes about 250 head of registered Angus cattle on 6,000 acres, in addition to 2,000 acres of grain farming. Bill has been actively involved in the cattle industry through extensive volunteer service, including service as president and secretary of Douglas County Cattlemen's Association; president of Washington State Shorthorn Association; national chairman of the Commercial Cattle Committee of the American Shorthorn Association; vice president of the Washington State Angus Association; a member of the American Angus Association and a delegate to its annual meeting; a member and director of Cattle Producers of Washington; a member of Washington Cattlemen's Association; and a member of the Planning Committee for Oil Seed Workshop sponsored by Washington State University.
