Jana Malot was raised on a dairy farm that eventually was converted to a beef, swine and crop/hay farm and today operates that Harrisonville, Pennsylvania farm with her husband, Clem, daughter, Alicia, and grandson, Jadin. Their grazing operation includes 300 acres of pasture, and their herd comprises 50 cow/calf pairs, 16 horses and mules, replacement heifers and a half dozen grass-fed steers sold through the grass-fed beef market. They use the original farm house as a guest house, and their operation includes a bed-and-breakfast with a farm-vacation emphasis, providing services for weddings, parades, funerals, parties, horse/pony rides, trail rides and camp trips, among others. Jana recently retired from the USDA National Resource Conservation Service after 30 years of service. She currently is working to expand their farm's pasture base to incorporate year-round grazing. Off of the farm, Jana has been extremely involved in agricultural and other organizations, with memberships to about 20 of them, including the likes of the Society for Range Management, the American Forage and Grassland Council, the Penn State Ag Council and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and also is a past 4-H leader and FFA advisor.
