Amelia was nominated to the Beef Board by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Louisiana Cattlewomen and the Cattle Producers of Louisiana and was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to begin her first term on the Board in 2016. She earned her bachelor's degrees in economics and religion and completed additional coursework at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Tulane University. Amelia and her husband, Russell, own and manage a beef-cattle herd, manage the nutrition, breeding and health of the cattle, market the calf crop and replacement heifer crop annually, market and manage local beef sales, attend to property maintenance on multiple leased and owned properties, and own a hay operation. Her list of achievements and participation in agriculture are extensive, including leadership positions for the Louisiana Beef Industry Council; Capital Area Groundwater Conservation Commission, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, president of Tangipahoa Parish Cattlemen's Association; and membership in the East Feliciana Cattlemen's Association and NCBA. She is a former winner of the Farm Bureau Louisiana Excellence in Agriculture Award; a Farm Bureau Louisiana Discussion Meet Finalist; and the Farm Bureau Louisiana's Outstanding Your Farm Woman award, to name a few.
