For more than a century, west Texas has been home to the RA Brown Ranch, a nationally recognized leader in the seedstock industry, supplying Angus, Red Angus and SimAngus genetics to cattlemen across the country. Donnell Brown, fifth-generation rancher and seedstock manager for the family operation, also understands the importance of the beef checkoff in helping cattlemen share their ranching stories with consumers and those who influence their purchasing and eating decisions.
“The beef checkoff shares our story with influencers to help them better understand why we’re in the cattle business and why we love taking care of the livestock, the land and the environment in order to produce a nutritious, high-quality product to feed the world,” says Donnell.
“Our beef checkoff does important work by providing tools and training for chefs, retailers and influencers who come in daily contact with consumers,” he continues. “These checkoff-funded initiatives help these thought leaders better understand the value of our product, its nutritional benefits and how to better prepare and serve beef.
“I believe it is very important for our industry to reach out to the influencers in the food business. We, as ranchers, are tied up every day taking care of the land and the livestock. We’re thankful for the checkoff and what it does to educate chefs and grocers about the value of beef and why it’s a great-tasting part of a safe, wholesome, nutritious diet.”
