Paul Doton, Vermont

“I am a 4th generation dairy producer from Woodstock, Vt., and with my son, we milk 60 Holsteins and have 40 young stock.

“As we know, 25 percent of the beef supply comes from dairy animals and I think it’s very important that we have a market for our dairy beef -- high-quality beef. And, we as dairy producers need to remember to send our animals to market in the shape they need to be in in order to be valuable for the beef market.

“The checkoff is doing research and showing customers the value of beef. Many of my neighbors complain about paying $1 for Jersey calves that aren’t worth that much, but in the long run, everyone understands the value of the checkoff and the fact that they’re able to do the research and promotion that helps move this beef.”
