Ensuring Consumer Confidence and Beef Safety
The checkoff invests in extensive research efforts to ensure maintenance of the safest beef supply possible, including efforts in product enhancement, new-product development and nutrition research. At the very base is market research, which helps rank research priorities by tracking consumer confidence and concerns about beef.
- Demonstrating new chuck cuts – The checkoff is spreading the word about new chuck roll value cuts developed via checkoff-funded research, with cutting demonstrations for the International Livestock Congress, Cattlemen’s College, the Colorado Chef’s Association, Chico State’s Beef Day, Kentucky & Tennessee retail & foodservice meetings (see above), the Missouri Association of Meat Processors, and the U.S. Foodservice and Mississippi State University’s Marination 101 Course so far this year. - Getting results – Recent articles in the New York Times and BEEF magazine discuss the benefits of checkoff-funded muscle profiling research and the new cuts from the beef chuck that resulted from it. To access the articles, go to New York Timesand BEEF.
- Lauding a moderate protein diet — A moderate protein diet (1.6 g/kg protein) is more effective than a conventional high-carbohydrate (o.8 g/kg protein) diet for fat mass loss and body-composition improvement during initial weight loss and long-term maintenance, according to new beef checkoff-funded research.
