Cut #1                :19                   O.C..."the beef industry."

Senn says consumers may be misinformed as to the meat in the grocery store and whether it’s from a beef animal or a dairy animal...tape

Cut #2               :18                    O.C..."very important part."

Senn also highlights beef checkoff program areas that are of most interest for dairy producers, as discussed during the dairy forum. She notes that with a few small changes, dairy producers have more control over their income…tape.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
