New Beefmobile Wrangler Walks the Walk

Date: Wednesday, January 17, 2007

ANNCR:
New Beefmobile wrangler and Colorado producer Stephanie Ausfahl (AUS-FALL) has begun her quest to drive the checkoff-funded Beefmobile van thousands of miles to meet with fellow cattle producers at auction market facilities and in small towns around the U.S. in the coming year. She knows a little about their challenging profession – it’s hers, too.

AUSFAHL
“I think the fact that I’m a producer myself, as well as the experience I’ve had in the sale barns,  is going to help me.

Cut 1:       Outcue:   :08      Outcue:  “…..is going to help me.”

ANNCR:
Two of Ausfahl’s main topics will be talking with cattlemen about checkoff investments and producer profitability.

AUSFAHL:
“I think that’s a lot of the message we try to take across—trying to explain that their $1 is    doing something beneficial to increase the demand for beef, as well as the possibility of profitability for the producer.

Cut 2:       Outcue:    :12        “…for the producer.”

ANNCR:
Ausfahl said she enjoys talking with fellow producers, so the year-long Beefmobile tour will be educational for her, too.

AUSFAHL:
“To be able to go around the country and see the differences in the country and the way other producers raise their animals—that’s going to be a learning experience for me”

Cut 3:     Outcue:    :12         “…experience for me.”

Background

In 2006, two vans traveled nearly 87,000 miles, through 40 different states, and made contact with about 568,000 producers. The Beefmobile program is coordinated by the National Livestock Producers Association (NLPA), on behalf of the Cattlemen’s Beef Board.  For more information contact www.beefmobile.com

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
