CBB Chairman Kim Brackett was one of a dozen commodity and checkoff representatives who recently traveled to the Middle East and Europe to gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities that these markets hold for U.S. beef exports and long-term growth in demand for U.S. beef.

Kim did an interview from Dubai with AgriTalk broadcaster Mike Adams to talk about the tour and share how checkoff dollars are improving export opportunities there. Take a couple of minutes to listen to that interview at Kim on AgriTalk.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
