Your Beef Checkoff Program would like to send a sincere THANK YOU for the submissions and participation in our Cattle Ranching in Focus photo contest last month. We are just overwhelmed by the superb quality of all of the entries, and are proud to represent you and your beef story.
A special CONGRATULATIONS to the Grand Champion photo – “Uphill Battle,” submitted by JILL BOSICH, who wins a Weber portable gas grill for her accomplishment. Jill’s winning photo was posted to the My Beef Checkoff Facebook page during December.
Second-place honors go to Kerri Kemp-McGee for her “Dragging to Fire” branding photo. Kerri wins a fleece vest, emblazoned with the Beef Check Logo.
Runners up, who each receive a new beef checkoff cookbook and cap and whose photos also will be featured moving forward, are:
- Katie Smith, for “A Cowgirl’s Best Friend”
- Susan Doverspike for “Heading Home”
- Colin Wilson for “The Cow in the Clouds”
The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
