The PA Beef Council shared the benefits of lean beef during the PA State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (PASHPERD) Conference, Nov. 21-23, in King of Prussia.
More than 800 health and physical education teachers, future professionals, dance educators, coaches, and recreation and sport professionals from across the state attended the annual event. Visitors to the beef booth received Beef in an Optimal Lean Diet (BOLD) Study toolkits, nutrition fact sheets, and beef recipes. When asked about their thoughts on beef, 72 percent said "my opinion of the positives of beef has increased" after interacting with beef checkoff staff.
The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
