The Daily Meal, a highly popular website devoted to topics about food and drink, recently featured the checkoff's Masters of Beef Advocacy (MBA) alumna Susie Strassburger, aka Suzi Sirloin, among the 'Coolest People in Food' for 2013. Susie was ranked among world-class chefs and restaurateurs for her knowledge about meat, drinks and her business savvy with high-end steakhouses. Strassburger's fifth-generation family business, Strassburger Prime Dry-Aged Steaks, supplies steaks to some of New York City's finest steakhouses. Susie's website, The Sirloin Report, and the MBA program, received mentions in the profile, too. Congratulations, Susie and thank you for the work you do for the beef community!

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
