Earlier this month, 19 food and parenting bloggers participated in an invitation-only, interactive workshop that provided an opportunity for the beef checkoff to share the latest nutrition information and culinary education. The day-and-a-half-long workshop provided participants opportunities to network, learn about beef’s nutrients, experience "umami" and get in the kitchen to create new weeknight meals with beef. They shared their experience during the event, via a variety of social media platforms and the hashtag #LivingWell. Following the event, several participants recapped their most memorable takeaways on their blogs, including My Bizzy Kitchen and Amee’s Savory Dish.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
