The beef checkoff recently sponsored and participated in the #GoUnDiet Twitter chat -- a monthly chat developed by HealthCastle.com, the largest nutrition network run by registered dietitians. The chat was moderated by Toby Amidor, MS, RD, CDN. It focused on eating right to fuel your day and highlighted the importance of breakfast, lunch and snacks to energize both kids and adults. The beef checkoff participated in the chat from the @BeefRD Twitter handle to further promote lean beef meals, health professional resources and protein research. Sixty-one leading nutrition and health focused individuals participated in the chat, generating more than 2.6 million impressions!
The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
