Market research indicates that, during a typical week, 76 percent of Americans have not decided within an hour of dinnertime what they will prepare for their families to eat. Unsure about what to purchase, they often find themselves in the grocery store at the last minute. That’s the impetus for a planned “Convenient Fresh Beef” program, offering consumers meal solutions with preparation times of 30 minutes or less. This initiative will utilize fresh cuts of beef, including ground beef, steaks, and roasts, from the fresh meat case in grocery stores. The meat will be sold either in “starter kits” with seasoning packets or in special packaging that allows for microwave preparation, in some cases. A test launch is expected in 2012.
