Expert Roast-Carving Tips

Here are four easy steps to follow when carving a roast to ensure you cut across the grain:

  1. Let roast sit tented with aluminum foil for about 15 to 20 minutes before carving.
  2. Determine which way the muscle fibers run through the beef roast by slicing a small portion off of one end to expose the fibers; this is the grain.
  3. Anchor the roast firmly with a two-pronged carving fork.
  4. Carve roasts across the grain.
