McNeill says registered dieticians look to the beef checkoff as an information source for science-based nutrition information, but they still have questions about beef and how to incorporate beef recipes into their dietary recommendations for patients, which makes this event an important peer-to-peer information-sharing opportunity…tape

Cut #2               :26                   O.C...”beef in the diet”

The checkoff invited beef producers to play at role at the booth to answer questions about how they’re raising cattle and taking care of cattle to make sure they’re producing the highest quality beef for consumers. McNeill highlights some of the “hot topics” that were on the minds of dieticians during the conference…tape.

Cut #3                :30                    O.C...”clients comes from”

This key group of influencers includes dieticians, scientists, nutrition experts, sports medicine and wellness clinic experts, private practice dieticians and those involved with the media (e.g. nutrition bloggers). State beef councils also extend recipes, scientific papers and much more throughout the year via nutrition influencer webinars, e-newsletters and by working with their state dietetic association.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
