Beef At World Food Expo

With support from the beef and pork checkoff programs, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) recently made its first appearance at World Food Expo (WOFEX) in Manila, the Philippine capital. A total of 258 exhibitors from 15 countries attracted nearly 38,000 visitors from the Mindanao and Visayas regions of the archipelago to this ninth annual four-day-long trade show for the food and beverage, catering and hospitality, food technology and retail sectors of the industry.

USMEF provided a display chiller for U.S. beef and pork products and cooking facilities for samples. Beef products showcased included prime chuck roll, tenderloin, striploin, ribeye, porterhouse, T-bone, chuck bistro tender, top blade, chuck roll, short plate and boneless short ribs.

Informational brochures and other materials were also distributed to help educate attendees about the positive attributes of U.S. beef. The Philippines is second-largest ASEAN market for U.S. beef plus beef variety meat, with exports valued at $8.7 million through the first half of 2009.
