Date: Friday, September 05, 2008

Three producers representing the checkoff will take the RFD-TV stage Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Central to talk to producers and importers nationwide about recent checkoff results, including global consumer marketing, issues management, and research projects. Beef Board Chairman Dave Bateman, Global Consumer Marketing Group Chair Virginia Coelho of California, and Public Opinion and Issues Management Group Chair David Dick of Missouri will begin the one-hour program with discussion of program results and answer questions from Farm Broadcaster and host Max Armstrong. Phone lines then will be open to take calls from producers and importers about their checkoff programs and priorities. We encourage anyone to tune in and call with any questions and to encourage fellow cattlemen and importers to do the same. The call-in number will be on the screen during the program. Checkoff questions are also being accepted in advance, as well as during and after the program, via MyBeefCheckoff.com. While some of the questions submitted will be answered live during the program, all questions will be answered directly and selected questions and answers will be posted on MyBeefCheckoff.com.

In addition to the live broadcast, a recorded edition of the program will air at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, and again at 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 (all times are Central).

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
