Date: Monday, August 11, 2008

Suggested Lead:  The checkoff-funded National Beef Ambassadors have a summer challenge for children across the country spending countless hours grooming, training, exercising and managing show steers. Yes, it’s county fair time. Caitlin Williams, 2008 National Beef Ambassador winner from Tucson, Ariz., says in honor of the showing season and the lessons of good stewardship and animal welfare that children learn in their beef production projects, the Beef Ambassadors are sponsoring a photo contest…tape.

Cut #1                :30                   O.C..."healthy and happy."

Williams says the photo contest focuses on the theme that participation in showing cattle encourages good stewardship of our animals. So, she wants photos that capture those little moments that exemplify how well animals are being taken care of...tape.

Cut #2               :44                       O.C..."keep them healthy."

Photos should be sent to raisingthesteaks@gmail.com and the deadline for entries is October 1...tape.

Cut #3               :13                       O.C..."beef checkoff ball cap."

The National Beef Ambassador Program encourages today’s youth to get and stay involved in their industry by sending them to the front line to promote beef and educate consumers about the beef industry. The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
