Hughes is actively involved in ranching and investments in privately held agricultural, industrial, real estate and oil and gas concerns. He owns cow-calf ranches in Texas and New Mexico. He also is a partner in CA Cattle Company, a stocker/feeder cattle provider based in Mason, Texas; principal of Great Plains Cattle Feeders in Hereford, Texas; partner in Mason County Feeders, Inc., based in Mason, Texas; and a current Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and Texas Livestock Marketing Association director. He and his wife have two children.
